Kapp & Peterson Relocates to New Factory
Kapp & Peterson is pleased to announce that as of 23 May, it has relocated to a new facility in the Deansgrange neighborhood of County Dublin — a relatively short walk from its previous home in Sallynoggin.
Moving is not something the Dublin-based institution takes lightly. “We were in Sallynoggin for 50 years,” says Managing Director Joshua Burgess. “And Sallynoggin was only our second home after moving from the original St. Stephen’s Green factory in 1972.” Peterson’s staff leaves behind fond memories of Sallynoggin. “The factory in Sallynoggin was my first job,” says Factory Manager Jonathan Fields. “I worked in that building when I got married; I worked there when my kids were born.”
Jonathan Fields, Factory Manager
“Despite our attachment to the building and the community, the move ultimately made a lot of sense for us,” says Burgess. “When Laudisi acquired Kapp & Peterson in 2018, we were able to sign a four-year lease. As our time in the building came to a close, we took a hard look at our needs,” he continues. Those needs included more space and updated infrastructure. “We reached a point where if we wanted to continue to grow and do things like update our tooling, some big changes were necessary,” notes Burgess. “For example, the electrical capacity of the building had reached its limit. The electrician at one point said, sort of jokingly, ‘No more machines. I can’t add one more machine without doing a serious overhaul of the electrical.’”
“Moving the factory was a really big project,” says Fields, “but we wanted to make it happen with as little disruption to the staff and our pipe making as possible.” To that end, the entire Peterson staff pitched in, moving the equipment, tools, and briar that they know best. “We moved all our machinery and pipes in three days,” says Fields. “We left Sallynoggin on a Wednesday and started making pipes in our new home the following Monday.”
After four weeks in their new location, the men and women who make Peterson pipes are settling into their new home.
Tony Whelan, former Factory manager
“The new place is great,” says Tony Whelan, former factory manager and 50-year Peterson veteran. “When I volunteered to help with the move, I became the first employee in Peterson history to work in three different locations. I’m proud of that.”
In addition, Fields notes that the entire staff is getting to know its new neighbors. “The Grange pub is a good place to head after work. They pour a nice Guinness.”
Peterson now finds itself with ample space for growth in pipe making and storage. “In the new space, we’re able to group work together in an intuitive way,” says Burgess. “All the machines that are related to drilling — bowls, mortises, mouthpieces — can now be in the same production line. It promotes better collaboration when everyone who’s doing the same sort of work is stationed together.”
Giacomo Penzo, Pipe Specialist
Sykes Wilford, Laudisi’s CEO, recently worked alongside the staff in its new location. “I’m so pleased with the new place and all the work the guys did to make it happen,” says Wilford. “Peterson has a bright future here, and I’m convinced that the new factory furthers our goal of making excellent pipes, firmly in the Peterson tradition.”

CPG Pipe News
The sample CPG pipe is working its way through the factory and in a week or two I’ll have photos to share. In the meantime, there are four or five slots left in the lineup of 80 numbered pipes. If you want a 9mm version of this special Deluxe Sandblast System, please write and let me know. At this point I only have one smoker interested and we need five more to make the 9mm option viable.
Congratulations and best wishes from a dedicated Peterson owner.
While I’m sure many of the employees and CPGs are feeling melancholy about the move from the delightfully-named and historic Sallynoggin factory, it’s even better to see Laudisi investing in K&P’s future.
Craig–wow! That is amazing. I’m SOOO GLAD the pipe is undamaged. And DANG, if I’d known how cool it looks, I would’ve sprung for the Ulysses! I didn’t think I’d like the stain used, but it’s really, really gorgeous. What is it with studio lighting? It’s far better under your house lights than they looked in the “professional” photos. Congratulations!
Congratulations! Here’s to progress and a bright future!
Looks very promising. Keeping our favourite brand alive and kicking.
Congratulations! Wish you all the very best in your new innings! ??
I don’t know what I’m more excited about, the future of Peterson at the new factory or the forthcoming CPG pipe!
Thanks Mark for sharing. For what it’s worth, I’d take a filter pipe if available, but I’m indifferent. You can include me as part of thay five.
Cool, Chris. Got you down, either way.
Thanks Mark for the update. This is historical info that keeps Peterson Pipes such an exciting brand to smoke and collect. You are such a key player in the telling of their story… Makes it seem like we are all part of it.

Just blessed to be able to pass along the media kit, John. Great photos, though! I’d really like to go see the new factory now. . . but keep it on the QT (my wife sometimes reads these comments and she’s already been to the old factory 3 times…)
The future is bright – for the craftspeople at Peterson, and we worldwide pipe smokers! I was a part of building, equipping, and moving into a new factory (about a million years ago), leaving an old home (factory), and know what an operation it is – good on y’all Pete-people!
Great information on the new factory.
Congratulations to all there!
It sure it will be a wonderful place for the grand tradition of amazing pipes to continue. Laudisi is making great decisions regarding Peterson. I am looking forward to many more years of great pipes from Dublin.
I am ALSO looking forward to a great 9mm CPG too! Hopefully, some will say yes to that option as as one simply need not put in a filter, but that will allow those Pete Geeks who DO filter a chance for a great pipe.
Thanks Mark!
Mark, we’re up to 4 9mm smokers now. Just need 2 more!!
??That is great! ??
Apologies to all for the multi-posts. Trying work out the kinks on the WordPress app on my phone. Clearly, I have a ways to go! ?
Thanks Mark! Great information on the new factory.
Congratulations to all there!

What a wonderful story, thanks for keeping us CPG’s in the loop. What a monumental accomplishment to be able to move a factory in three days and start back into production. This requires teamwork and employee dedication. This speaks volumes as to what type of company and work environment Peterson has built over the years. Godspeed to to Peterson beginning a new chapter and continuing their long history for us and future pipe smokers everywhere. As for the CPG pipe, I am also indifferent to the 9mm feature, so you can also mark me down for one needed to reach… Read more »
Thanks, Chris. Just blessed to be able to share this with everyone. I boggle that they could do this in what, 5 days? Only a company like K&P could pull this off. Or maybe it’s the Irish. Probably both. Erin go bragh!
Thanks Mark! Great information on the new factory.

Mark,
Thanks for posting the update. You can add me to filter option. Filter or not, makes no difference to me.
The new factory looks spectacularly efficient and streamlined. I am sure the new digs will allow Peterson to turn out even more impressive briars in the years to come. Having said that, I am now going to be the grumpy old naysayer in the crowd, there is an image in my mind, as I am sure there is in many of us Peterson geeks of the old pipe factory populated by a slightly disheveled bunch of pipe carvers going about their daily chores of creating wonderful Irish made briars, each pipe reflecting the personality of the creator. I know that… Read more »
Doug, you need to treat yourself to a visit to the factory. It’s an amazing place, the old or the new. “Factory” is the word used back when they were on Lion Street in Dublin, then St. Stephen’s Green, then Sallynoggin–but with only 25 or so craft folk out there, it’s really more of a workshop. I’m sure Castello and some of the other Italian prestige marques have that many folk as well, and I KNOW they don’t use the “F” word! LOL.
So glad to see a pipe company going forward instead of backward! Thanks Mark for keeping all this knowledge and history available for us all.
It’s so my pleasure and so grateful that Laudisi and K&P let me hang around!
Hello Mark and all companions. I lived in St Stephens Green until I joined the Royal Air Force in !973 ( chocks away chaps! Tally Ho!) Sadly, I have never visited the workshop at Sallynoggin (wonderful name and much to be missed) but, or so I assume, the busy leprechauns, having given up shoe making in these benighted times of ‘trainers’ have brought their arcane arts of crafting pipes. I echo Mr John Miller’s sentiment in thanking you for being the anchorman that brings it all together for those of us who relish the smell of tobacco and the enjoyment… Read more »
Thank you, Richard. I will place you on the 9mm list. Did you fly for the RAF or serve in other capacities?
Des salariés heureux feront des fumeurs de belles pipes heureux!
Tellement vrai! Et les fumeurs de pipe heureux rendent les fabricants de pipes Peterson heureux !
Thanks for the update Mark, good to know that K&P is physically positioned for another successful 50 years, and it looks like they have the right crew to carry the spirit forward too!
Can’t wait to see the sample CPG!
The new facility looks great, and it’s amazing that they were able to get moved and back into production that quickly! We moved house almost two years ago, and there are still things that haven’t been unpacked!
Great Article it’s my Dream someday to go to the Peterson Factory and be the kid in the Candy Store !!!!!!!
Hello Mark, No, I was not aircrew. Instead I spent my time in air signals, on radar (briefly) and what is my favourite oxymoron ‘air intelligence’ Thank you for putting me on the (MM list.
