472. SPECIAL BULLETIN: The POY 2025 – 02BB Drops Friday!

US Drop @ Smokingpipes.com: Friday, August 8th, 6pm EDT, 5PM CDT, 4PM 3PM PDT.
DUBLIN Drop @ Smokingpipes.eu: Friday, August 8th, 10am IST (that’s GMT+1). That’s 5am EDT, 4am CDT, 3am MTD, 2am PDT… I think.

Remember that internet and local dealers will also stock these.

Like you, I’ve been waiting all year for this release and doesn’t disappoint.  I want to do a fuller look at this, one of my very favorite shapes in the entire Peterson catalog, in just a few weeks when I hear back from some of the other Pete Geeks with pix of the vintage 02s and 02BBs in their collections. But in comparing the samples Laudisi sent with my own vintage 02 and 02BB, I am really impressed.  The Deansgrange team did a fabulous job on this year’s POY.

I haven’t heard officially what the finishes will be, but the Instagram Reels and samples I received show the Heritage, black Sandblast, Rusticated, Terracotta and Rua. I also know there are a small handful of Silver Cap Ruas (maybe 3?) and at least one or two Naturals–chimeric to be sure.

This year’s release continues the Irish tweed with leather patch sock–something I love–although there’s still no sign of a sport coat or flat cap forthcoming!

…and of course the beloved “Chat” brochure is also included.

Hope to hear from you in the Comments Section at the Drop Party on Friday!

Until then,
Happy Smokes–
Mark

Wow. That is a looker. I can certainly see another black sandblast added to the collection. Thank you for the heads-up, Mark.

What?! 6pm Eastern on Friday? That’s the moment that the show floor opens in Columbus. Ugh.

Caig, a little bird told me that there are going to be PLENTY of the sandblast and rusticated finish pipes, so not to worry about getting into the phone lines right at the drop.
Of course, that’s ONE person’s opinion….

Sandblast and a smooth for me. One to smoke one to look at. Lol

Thanks a lot!! The pics of the rusticated and sandblasted versions have me going back and forth trying to decide. Of course the easy answer is one of each, but I don’t believe She Who Must Be Obeyed will see the dilemma in the same light.

Well, when I opened the SP email, the first pipes I saw were the Barleys. And purchased one while trying to get my eyes back in my head.
Truthfully, any of the pipes on the SP site would be a treasure. Having a few Barleys in the collection, I love how they start coloring up.

Wow.
Another sensational Pete.
I’m in for a Terracotta or a Rua.
Or both *lol*

Not a system (sigh)…BUT my goodness it’s a beautiful pipe. I’ll definitely be buying a rusticated. Well done Peterson.

The drop was early, several rua and silver caps still up. I picked rusticated #255.

Tanks for the heads up! Although I really was hoping for a 02 or O2 remake, close one.
No pressure, but might a 02BB system be possible as a PPN pipe of the year 2025? The shank looks suitable for housing a reservoir, while fitting an army mount shouldn’t be a problem either…

I’m sure (was told) that there will be some Silver Cap rustic or sandblasted.

They’re beautiful! 😍
I really want one, but I don’t think I would ever smoke a pipe that big, so I’m saving my money for the copper mount systems that I *hope* are coming next month. 🤞

I don’t have any inside knowledge. I just made a wish for a copper mounted system as this year’s Christmas pipe, and I’m hoping my wish comes true. 😊

To be honest, I might not go for this one, but that’s part of what makes Peterson so amazing: they make something for everyone.

I was thinking the same, but that rua looks pretty great. Also, aren’t we getting close to Pete Geek POTY time?

Love that Peterson is bringing back this shape. To Rua or not to Rua? 🤔

That is a cool looking, big shape. Thanks for the heads-up, Mark. I’ve never seen a 02BB in person.

I’m curious: how does it compare to the Founder’s Edition or Pub Pipe (sans system)? It looks as though it may be slimmer, but perhaps it’s actually just taller?

Also, what does the double “BB” represent? If I recall, a single ‘B’ refers to a tapered stem on a system pipe.

Nice looking pipes!
I was looking at the new Dracula Spigot and wondering, how about a Sherlock Holmes Spigot release???
Wouldn’t that appeal to the fans?

My brother was able to snag a Rua Silver cap! I think Mark said there were all of like 3 in the 1k batch. I’m stoked for him, as this year commemorates the birth of his son. As always, thanks Mark for these posts. The 2025 pipes are megalithic and stunning

I seem to have missed the opportunity to secure a Natural Rusticated for myself… I hope to find one outside of smoking pipes. I LOVE that finish, and really think Peterson should use it on more pipes, especially on the system lines. Also hope for the 02(BB) to return to the catalogue…

I was fortunate enough to get a Natural Rusticated. And am VERY happy to have done so, 👍🏼

My PPAD took over yesterday and I went a little overboard. I was able to get a Rua Silver Cap, Supreme Sandblast, Terracotta, Barley and a Natural Rusticated. I’m glad this is only once a year.

The examples they had on the site were stunning- appeared to have one supreme smooth1/1000, 1-2 silver cap naturals, a few naturals and a few rua silver caps. I particularly like the silver caps but all were nice in their own right .

Man, had I been to the party early enough I’d have nabbed it for ya! As it stood, my brother just so happened to refresh their site early in the dayto discover the party was getting started. He was excited to nab a very nicely grained Rua silver cap, deciding a supreme sandblast wasn’t to his liking, but the supreme and natural smooth iterations appeared to be gobbled up even as early as he arrived.
Hope you were able to still grab a finish to your liking!

I got mine yesterday in heritage. Good thing I like that because I’m always too late to have any others available!

The only thing I wanted to mention aside from the fact that it’s beautiful is that it looked like the silver didn’t get polished and it came in a green leather pouch. I was really looking forward to the tweed one. Still, a wonderful addition to the Peterson’s family at my home.
