420. Pete Geek Meet @ the CORPS Show in Richmond on Saturday!

This Saturday marks the 40th anniversary of the Conclave of Richmond Pipe Smokers, and I believe theirs is now the longest running pipe show in America.  CORPS was founded by Linwood Hines, the most modest and knowledgeable pipe smoker you’ll ever meet. He was, you may recall, the very first subscriber to Peterson Pipe Notes and has long been an advocate for all things Peterson.

Sensei Linwood Hines

Our very own Lee Skiver CPG will be at the show for an informal Pete Geek Meet. He’ll be easy to spot as he’ll be sporting the Pete Geek t shirt and our Dubliner flat cap. If you can make it, be sure to get your photo taken with Lee or send me a photo of your badge for a special Pete Geek CORPS Meet merit badge, or your CPG if you don’t already have it. If you’re planning to attend, you can contact Lee in advance at robert.skiver@gmail.com.

PG Ambassador Lee Skiver

The show celebrating our 40th Anniversary on September 14th and 15th 2024 is upon us.  We’ve got over 50 tables rented.  The Saturday night dinner is sold out with 130 people signed up.  Our guest speaker will be Chuck Stanion, Senior Writer and Editor at Smokingpipes.com.  If you’re familiar with his writings, you know he can spin a tale as well as anyone.  If you’re not familiar with his writings, go to https://smokingpipes.com/smokingpipesblog/index.cfm and be entertained and enlightened.  The website for the Keystone Antique Truck and Tractor Museum is https://keystonetractorworks.com/visit-keystone/ .

Our original block of hotel rooms sold out.  We have a new site available if you haven’t made a reservation yet.  It’s at the Comfort Suites Southpark.  The link is:  https://www.choicehotels.com/virginia/colonial-heights/comfort-suites-hotels/va041/rates?hotel=VA041&pu=no&ratePlanCode=LKEY

Sutliff Tobacco is having a 175th Year Anniversary Event on Friday, September 13th 2024.  Make a weekend of it:  visit Sutliff on Friday and take in our show on Saturday and Sunday.   https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sutliff-175th-anniversary-party-tickets-865454727387?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=listing&utm-source=cp&aff=ebdsshcopyurl

I was thinking we’d hear about the Christmas pipes but I’m sure Sunday will bring what I’m looking for.

Wish I could be there. Enjoy gang!

Thanks to all those who’ve reached me via email, and thanks to Mark for entrusting me with this ambassadorship!

In an effort to gather as many PGs in one place, I’ll be stationing myself at the museum restaurant at 11AM tomorrow morning.

Would love to have as many folks come, take a picture or two, and maybe break some bread!

‘Til then, safe travels and see you soon,
Lee

I wish there was some way I could get there – I love visiting Richmond and it’s been way too long.

Thank you Mark for your kind words – and getting the word out about our 40th celebration, and Expo. The Ancient and Honourable Art and Sport of Pipe Smoking tradition continues this weekend! A note to those attending: The entrance to the Expo is NOT at the regular entrance to the museum. Our entrance is “around back” – drive to the Southernmost side of the building driveway, beside the museum building and you’ll break out into a HUGE parking lot, and the “banquet room entrance”. You’ll still be able to view the museum with our badge right from our show!… Read more »
