456. A Gallery Walk Through Tim Lomprey’s Patent Era Petersons

Today is the final day of the Chicago Pipe Show, so with the aid of long-time Pete Geek Tim Lomprey, one of the foremost Peterson collectors in the world, I thought I’d bring you something you definitely will not see at the show–a collection of Patent-era Petes that rivals or exceeds that Gary Malmberg brought for our 2019 Exhibit when the big Peterson book was released.  Enjoy, and Happy Smokes!

A Gallery Walk Through Tim’s Patent Era Petes

Tim Lomprey CPG

1892, Shape 4:

1897 Patent:

1899 Patent–note the Birmingham Hallmarks:

1904 Patent Meerschaum Bulldog with Fletch Hiner’s Array of Replacement Stems:

1904 Patent Footed Meerschaum:

1904 Patent Meerschaum Shamrock Grade (note Shamrock on shank):

1905 Patent Dutch Billiard:

1911 Restored Calabash:

1911 Patent Cased Dutch Billiard:

1912 Patent, Restored:

1913 Patent:

1914 Patent SYSTEM:

…and the bone condenser:

1914 Patent:

1916 Patent “Pat” Shape:

1913 Patent System O.1S:

Fletch Hiner CPG sent me a great Patent 4 just this past week with one of his remarkable acrylic P-Lip creations:

Evan Swinington CPG sent some fascinating pictures of a recent 14B he acquired. What’s interesting about it to me is that it doesn’t look like the 308s I companion, nor the 14B I photographed for the big Pete book, nor the POY 14B recently.  But it does look an awful lot like the 1981 Mark Twain to me.  Great looking pipe!

…well, taller crown, but still–more like the MT 1981 than the 1950s 308s I’ve seen. And a far cry from the Patent 14B or the POY 14B.

Beautiful Patent collection. I especially liked the shamrock stamped on the meerschaum bowl – very unexpected to see.

That 14B is remarkable. I wanted to press the button on that one, but couldn’t get the seller to answer a few simple questions. The answers would have made it a quick ‘yes’ for me, but I’m happy it went to a great Peterson collector – congrats, Evan!

😳 WOW! What a selection of rare beauties!! Mark, thank you for sharing these pics of Tim’s, Fletch & Evan’s pipes. Congratulations to each of them to companions such Peterson pipes. Wishing I was in Chicago, despite having made the late & tough decision to not go. 🥲May it be even better than last year‘s which was fantastic. ENJOY !

Tim is one fine and generous fellow. He once gifted me an Irish free state bulldog and an Ashton pebble grain billiard.
